Clermont Huger Lee

Clermont Huger Lee, II, 92, of Savannah, died June 14 2006 at the Fraser Health Center on Hilton Head.
Born March 4, 1914 in Savannah, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence Lee, MD and Clermont Huger Lee. She was one of the first professional landscape architects in Georgia and had a lifelong interest in family genealogy. In 2002 she wrote The Joseph Alston Huger Family: Their Line of Descent from Daniel and Margaret Pedriau Huger of France and South Carolina.
Miss Lee attended the former Paper School and graduated from Ashley Hall in Charleston in 1932. She attended Barnard College in New York City for 2 years then entered Smith College in Northampton, MA where she received a Bachelor Degree in Landscape Architecture in 1936 and a MLA in 1939.
After working for the Sea Island Company in Sea Island, GA for several years, Miss Lee opened a private landscape architect practice in 1949 in Savannah retiring after fifty years.
Mills B. Lane, Jr. hired Miss Lee to renovate five historic Savannah squares and to make improvements of many historic district residential properties owned by the Lane family in downtown Savannah.
She was a member of ASLA and a board member of the Southeast Chapter of the ASLA and the original Georgia State Landscape Architecture Examining Board. In addition, she served on the boards of Historic Savannah Foundation, Inc., the Savannah Public Library, Savannah Science Museum, The Georgia Conservancy, and the Savannah Academy of Lifelong Learning.
She held memberships in the Bartram Trail Conference, the Bluffton Historical Preservation Society, Inc., the Georgia Historical Society, the Pendleton SC Historic Foundation, Inc, the Georgia Botanical Society and the Savannah chapter of the League of Women Voters.
Miss Lee was predeceased in death by her brothers Lawrence Lee, Jr., MD and James Moultrie Lee, MD. She is survived by her sisters-in-law, Elizabeth A. Lee of Flat Rock, NC and Jeanne R. Lee of Bluffton; a niece Alice L. Fraser Joseph B. Fraser III of Bluffton, and three nephews, Robert M. Lee Dyane C. Lee of Bluffton, Stephen H. Lee Deborah C. of Decatur, GA, and James M. Lee, Jr. Katherine F. of Jacksonville, FL.;
4 great nieces, four great nephews, and a great-great niece.
